In the beginning, all scrubs were available only in white colors. And since the walls of operating rooms are white, the sheets used are white, and medical practitioners are wearing white colored uniforms, this can cause eye fatigue. It was also proven to be awfully stressful for every medical practitioner within the operating rooms to be contained in an all-white environment plus the fact that tension can be generated from bright lighting.
The white scrubs that was constantly used before was no longer trendy during the 1960’s. A good number of medical practitioners started wearing blue or green colored scrubs. The scrubs during this time consisted of a drawstring pants that has no pockets and a shirt that is short sleeved with a V-neck design. The health profession before felt that lesser chances of cross infection is possible when they use clothing that was strictly worn within the operating room only along with no crannies and nooks for various infection to hide in.
Uniform scrubs are especially designed to be very functional to wearers and not for a certain style. All medical professionals including doctors and nurses who are going to work in the operating rooms are required to wear medical scrubs while inside it. Initially, a cloth cap is used to cover their hair and then will be replaced by paper disposable caps. A disposable paper shoe covers were used to cover their feet. And to avoid the risk of spreading infection within the hospitals, these garments are used by medical professionals.
The design didn’t stop from evolving. Prints in medical nursing scrubs were presented in the 70’s and in the 80’s. A variety of prints were incorporated to the unisex medical scrubs in this times, but still using the now customary colors of blue and green medical scrubs. White, blue, and green colors are still the popular colors of choice for medical scrubs but you will also notice that it is also a bit different. Uniform scrubs that are intended to be worn by women medical professionals were available in various styles way back in the 80’s. This selection of designs were enhanced so it can be more suitable to their personality or for their place of work.
